SPARK: Student Pursuing Ambitions, Relationships, and Knowledge

For Meeker Elementary School, some of the biggest areas of growth identified in their Family Panorama and Leader in Me surveys from last spring were: How well do the activities offered at your child's school match his/her interests? Does your child have the opportunity to discover and develop their genius?

Four Meeker Elementary students working on a blanket during SPARK

Seeing the survey results inspired Leader in Me facilitators to create student-led clubs known as SPARK: Student Pursuing Ambitions, Relationships, and Knowledge. On Friday mornings from 8:00 a.m. - 8:40 a.m., students have the opportunity to identify and pursue their unique strengths and passions outside of academics in 28 different clubs.

The SPARK clubs are:

  • Yoga
  • Best Buddies
  • Garden Club
  • Book Club
  • Kids in the Kitchen
  • LEGO Club
  • Pet Club
  • Recycling Club
  • Drawing Club
  • Ballet Folklorico
  • Karaoke Klub!
  • Fashion Club
  • Coloring Club
  • Blankets for Kids
  • Fitness Gram Club
  • Board Game Club
  • Science Club
  • Creative Writing Club
  • Hair Club
  • 3D Printing
  • Wellness 101
  • Creative/Junk Journal
  • Basketball Club

SPARK is not only inspiring creativity among students and staff, but also encouraging students to attend school more regularly, particularly on Fridays.
