2nd Grade

Welcome to 2nd Grade!

Mrs. Smith and Mrs. Hess are thrilled to be your teachers this year! We believe in the genius of every student, and we are here to help all students achieve greatness.

In reading, students learn about fossils, pollination, and different schools around the world. We learn how to research important topics to write organized and detailed stories and paragraphs. In math we apply what we know about adding and subtracting numbers up to 10 to perform double digit addition and subtraction. We will also be doing science experiments, learning history and geography, and developing our character through The Leader In Me.

Meet Mrs. Smith

Hello all! I am Mrs. Smith and excited to start a new journey this year in 2nd grade. I have been at Meeker for 12 years. I have my undergrad and teaching license from UNC. I also have my masters in reading from Adams State. When I am not at school I am with my family. My son Colton is 16 and a Junior in High School. My daughter Paisley is 11 and in 6th grade. They both keep me busy with their sports. I am married and we have a dog named Billy. He is a couch potato pittie. I love to be outside gardening, hiking, paddling, riding my bike and camping. We love to travel and visit National Parks.

I am so excited to be in 2nd grade this year! We have so many fun things planned in math and reading. I can’t wait to continue our journey.

Meet Mrs. Hess

It’s a great year to be a Meeker Mountain Lion! I am Mrs. Hess and proud to be teaching for my seventh year at Meeker and third year in second grade.

I was born and raised in Craig, Colorado, which is a small farming and mining town in the northwest mountains. I am the first in my family to graduate from college (go UNC!), and now I have several nieces and nephews following in my footsteps. Anything is possible, no matter where you’re from!!

I have lived in Greeley since 1997, and my husband Blake and I have been married since 2007. I love hiking, walking, cooking, and reading. Most of all I love my little dog Hutch who makes me laugh every single day!
